Euronest Parliamentary Assembly has condemned the construction of Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline.

This is stated in the resolution of the seventh session of Euronest, which ended on Wednesday in Brussels, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"The Assembly expresses concern over the development of Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, which will have a negative effect on the main objective of the diversification of energy supplies and, therefore, will undermine the prospects for development of the energy-efficient ecosystem," parliamentarians say.

Euronest also condemned Russia's aggressive foreign policy, which is aimed at undermining the territorial integrity of Ukraine and Georgia.

In addition, one of the urgent resolutions of the parliamentary assembly was dedicated to Ukrainian political prisoners held in Russia, in particular, Oleg Sentsov.

As a reminder, Nord Stream 2 is a gas pipeline from Russia to Germany, bypassing Ukraine through the Baltic Sea. Russian gas monopoly Gazprom owns 51% of the shares. The Russian Federation wants to build two strings of the gas pipeline (up to 55 billion cubic meters of gas per year). Brussels and Berlin promise to guarantee the transit of gas through Ukraine after Nord Stream 2 is built. At the same time, U.S. Special Representative for Ukraine Negotiations Kurt Volker believes that this project puts Ukraine in a more vulnerable political situation and calls the project purely political.

On April 5, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine called on the world not to support construction of Nord Stream 2.

The Euronest Parliamentary Assembly is a parliamentary forum to promote political association and further economic integration between the European Union and the EU's Eastern European partners.
