Speaker Parubiy signs law on national security

Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Andriy Parubiy has signed the Law of Ukraine "On National Security" and sent it to President Petro Poroshenko for his signature.

In a post on Twitter, Parubiy wrote: “I signed the Law of Ukraine “On National Security". This is an important and decisive step towards Ukraine's membership in NATO. Ukraine will be in NATO! I sent the law to President Petro Poroshenko for his signature.”

As reported, the Verkhovna Rada on June 21 adopted the law "On National Security”. The document was backed by 248 MPs, with at least 226 votes needed to make a decision.

The draft law regulates the fundamentals and principles of state policy in the field of national security and defense, taking into account the acquisition of membership in the EU and NATO, the mechanisms for improving democratic civilian control over the security and defense sector, the system of management of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, in particular, the division of tasks, functions, powers, responsibilities and accountability of the management of the Defense Ministry and the Armed Forces etc.
