Russia during World Cup may agree on exchange of prisoners - Klimkin
Foreign Minister of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin stated this on TV Channel 5.
"The gesture is possible, which is not a gesture of goodwill, but so that to improve Russia's image during the championship. The championship should be used, and the work should be continued," he said.
Klimkin noted that one should not expect the speedy release of all Ukrainian captives.
"We are well aware that Russia will not release everybody in the coming days or weeks," he added.
As reported, Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights Liudmyla Denisova on June 15 was not allowed to visit Ukrainian political prisoner Oleg Sentsov, who is being held in a penal colony in Labytnangi, Russia.
Also, on June 16, Denisova was not allowed to meet with Ukrainian citizen Mykola Karpiuk, who is also being held in a Russian prison. The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry sent a protest note to the Russian Federation. The monitoring visits by Denisova are carried out line with the agreements between the presidents of Ukraine and Russia.
