The Ukrainian side counts on progress in resolving the issue of the release of Ukrainian hostages after a telephone conversation between the Ukrainian and Russian presidents.

Darka Olifer, the spokesperson for Ukraine's representative in the Trilateral Contact Group, former Ukrainian president Leonid Kuchma, wrote this on her Facebook page following the results of the TCG’s meeting in Minsk.

"The Ukrainian side is ready to compromise for the liberation of people who are held in the Russian Federation and in ORDLO, and we hope that the telephone conversation between the presidents of Ukraine and the Russian Federation on this issue will help resolve the issue as soon as possible. We expect that the Russian Federation will reconsider its position on important humanitarian initiative - the creation of a tripartite mechanism for the search for missing persons with the participation of Ukraine, Russia and the International Committee of the Red Cross," Olifer said.

According to her, the implementation of the block of issues related to security and the Minsk agreements is the only way to establish a full and comprehensive peace in Donbas. However, all proposals of Ukraine were categorically rejected by the Russian side.

As reported, President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko held a telephone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin on June 9, during which he stressed the importance of the early release of Ukrainian political prisoners held in Russia and the occupied territories.
