Poroshenko, Erdogan discuss topical issues of cooperation
"In the framework of the working visit to Turkey, President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko met with President of the Republic of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
Leaders of the two countries discussed relevant issues of bilateral cooperation and international agenda," the press service of the President of Ukraine reports.
It is noted that Poroshenko had thanked Erdogan for unwavering support for Ukraine’s territorial integrity and protection of the rights of the Crimean Tatars and called on the President of Turkey to assist in liberation of Ukrainian hostages.
The parties expressed support for continuing an intensive political dialogue at the highest level. In particular, the organization of a regular meeting within the framework of the Ukrainian-Turkish High-level Strategic Council as well as the implementation of the initiative to hold a trilateral summit in the Ukraine-Turkey-Azerbaijan format was discussed.
Particular emphasis was placed on the importance of completing the negotiation process on the conclusion of a free trade agreement between Ukraine and Turkey.
Presidents of the two countries also exchanged views on ways to expand mutually beneficial cooperation in the energy, aviation and defense fields.
