France rules out any revision of EU sanctions against Russia
French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian said this on France's Europe 1 radio, commenting on the proposal of the Italian Government to review sanctions imposed on Russia for its aggression in Ukraine, Radio Liberty reported.
"When we achieve progress [in the settlement of the armed conflict in Donbas], then we can raise the issue of sanctions, and this is what we will tell Italy," the French foreign minister said.
As reported, on June 5, Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte called for a revision of the EU sanctions against Russia, as they "demean Russia’s civil society."
At the same time, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that the North Atlantic Alliance supported economic sanctions imposed on Russia in order to force the Kremlin to stop its aggression against Ukraine.
