Venice Commission welcomes judicial reform in Ukraine

Chairman of the Venice Commission Gianni Buquicchio has positively assessed changes occurred as part of the judicial reform in Ukraine over the past two years.

He said this during the conference "Judicial Reform in Ukraine: Achievements and Further Steps" held in Kyiv on Friday, June 1, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"Ukraine has already done a lot to bring European standards to its judicial system. However, this process is long-term, and it is not yet completed," the chairman of the Venice Commission said.

He noted that all legislative changes adopted in Ukraine within the judicial reform had been made with the support and approval of the Venice Commission, and now the Ukrainian society should implement them.

"I support step-by-step changes. Not all at once. People should be ready for changes. We are pleased with the judicial reform in Ukraine. But this process is not yet complete. We need to continue working. Now I'm saying this as a representative of the Venice Commission," Buquicchio stressed.
