Ukraine needs new program of cooperation with EU - president

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has said that it is necessary to draw up a new program of cooperation between Ukraine and the European Union.

He stated this at a joint press conference with Slovenian President Borut Pahor in Kyiv on Friday, an Ukrinform correspondent reported.

"We need a new and ambitious program of further cooperation with the EU, including with Ukraine's participation in the digital union, the energy union, the discussion of the expansion of other areas of our activities, including the customs union, the Schengen union and other positions on Ukraine's further promotion to the EU," Poroshenko said.

He also said that respective issues, as well as well as preparations for the EU-Ukraine summit this summer, had been discussed with the Slovenian president.

As reported, Poroshenko held talks with European Council President Donald Tusk on May 9 during which the leaders agreed to hold the 20th EU-Ukraine summit in Brussels in the summer of 2018.
