Portugal supports deployment of peacekeeping mission in Donbas

Defense Minister of Ukraine, Army General of Ukraine Stepan Poltorak said this during the joint press briefing with the National Defense Minister of Portugal José Alberto de Azeredo Lopes, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"We have discussed today the security situation both in Ukraine and in the world. We have discussed the need to deploy a peacekeeping mission in Donetsk and Luhansk regions. I would like to emphasize that Portugal fully supports our stance towards the need to deploy the peacekeepers in accordance with the international rules and UN standards," he said.

According to the minister, the parties discussed the important issues of bilateral defense cooperation. “Portugal always supports us on all the international platforms, provides treatment to our soldiers, provides assistance to our Armed Forces, actively participates in the NATO trust funds and the comprehensive assistance package for Ukraine," he said.

Portugal fully supports the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, National Defense Minister of Portugal José Alberto de Azeredo Lopes stressed. "We are resolutely committed to the principle of Ukraine's territorial integrity, its political independence and the restoration of its political and territorial integrity," he said.
