President signs law banning people with firearms from entering parliament, government

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has signed a law banning people with firearms from entering the buildings of the Verkhovna Rada, the Cabinet of Ministers and other government agencies, the press service of the head of state has reported.

"President Petro Poroshenko has signed the law of Ukraine introducing amendments to the law of Ukraine on the state protection of government agencies of Ukraine and officials, which was adopted by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on March 20, 2018," the statement reads.

The law foresees, in particular, that persons with cold arms or firearms (except for persons who ensure state protection of respective buildings) are banned from entering the buildings of the Verkhovna Rada, the Presidential Administration, the Cabinet of Ministers, as well as buildings where other government bodies of Ukraine are located and which are subject to state protection. 

According to the law, persons with explosives, blasting devices, ammunition of all kinds, training or imitation ammunition, flammable liquids or combustible solids, pyrotechnic means will not be allowed to enter buildings where government bodies are operating.

The law comes into force on the day of its publication.
