Japan does not recognize Russian presidential election in occupied Crimea

Ukrinform
The Government of Japan does not recognize the so-called Russian presidential election in the occupied Crimea that took place on Sunday, March 18.

Ambassador of Japan to Ukraine Shigeki Sumi said this to an Ukrinform correspondent on Monday.

"Japan supports the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine and does not recognize attempts to change a status quo by force. Thus, Japan does not recognize the illegal annexation of Crimea by the Russian Federation in March 2014, therefore, it does not consider the holding of the so-called Russian presidential election in Crimea on March 18, 2018 as valid," the ambassador of Japan said.

As reported, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said that the Russian presidential election in the occupied Crimea was illegal, and the only head of state to be elected by Crimea was the president of Ukraine.

France, Norway and Poland already declared the non-recognition of the Russian presidential election in the illegally annexed Crimea.
