On Thursday, the UN Security Council will hold a meeting on Crimea, including preparation by the Russian authorities for the illegal presidential election on the occupied peninsula, as well as possible ways of de-occupation of the Ukrainian territory.

The discussion will be held in the Arria format, Spokesman for the Permanent Mission of Ukraine to the United Nations Oleh Nikolenko told Ukrinform.

"Ukraine will be represented by Deputy Foreign Minister Olena Zerkal. In addition to members of the Security Council, representatives of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people will also take part in the discussion. Former UN special envoy for Ukraine Robert Serry is expected to deliver a speech," the Ukrainian diplomat said.

He notes that the meeting was initiated by Ukraine’s delegation to the UN. It was supported by the current members of the Security Council, in particular Sweden, Great Britain, Poland, the Netherlands and the United States.
