President congratulates Ukraine on historic victory in Stockholm

President Petro Poroshenko held a meeting with the team of NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine, which informed the President on the final decision of the Stockholm arbitration tribunal in the case of Naftogaz against Russia’s Gazprom, the president’s press service reported on Wednesday evening.

Poroshenko thanked the whole Ukrainian team that defended Ukraine's interests in Stockholm. He stressed that "this is a historic decision in the protection of the national and financial interests of Ukraine".

"This is a true victory. Today's decision of the Stockholm arbitration tribunal provided Ukraine with 4 billion 630 million dollars. These funds will cover the price of gas consumed by us in a very difficult year of 2014. And the budget of NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine will immediately get 2 billion 560 million US dollars. This is the result of the joint coordinated work of NJSC Naftogaz, Government and President," Poroshenko emphasized.

He also added that this this victory is extremely important as “this is the reinforcement of gold and foreign currency reserves, which confirms that our energy strategy is correct".

Previously, CEO of Naftogaz of Ukraine Andriy Kobolyev informed President Poroshenko that the company had got the final decision of the Stockholm arbitration tribunal. According to the decision, Ukraine won USD 4 billion 630 million that must be reimbursed by Gazprom for the past periods.
