The Education and Science Ministry of Ukraine has fully adopted the recommendations of the Venice Commission regarding the language article of the law on education and agrees that the transition period for the implementation of the article should be extended until 2023.

Education and Science Minister of Ukraine Lilia Hrynevych said this during a meeting with Romanian Ambassador to Ukraine Cristian-Leon Turcanu, the Ministry’s press service reports.

"We are grateful to the Venice Commission for its prompt and professional work and are ready to implement these recommendations. It is important to understand that we are not doing this not in response to reaction of certain countries. Our priority is that every Ukrainian child, regardless of their nationality or place of residence, has high level of command of the Ukrainian language. To do this, everyone should be ready to implement the article, taking into account the specifics of teaching of national communities of different language groups," Hrynevych explained.

She added that Ukraine would prepare a step-by-step road            map for the implementation of the language article.

In addition, the issue of finalizing the Protocol on education cooperation between the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine and the Ministry of National Education of Romania was discussed. The document is planned to be signed this year.
