Ariev elected PACE vice-president for 2018

Ukrinform
The head of the Ukrainian delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), MP Volodymyr Ariev, has been elected PACE vice-president for 2018, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

Before Ariev, this post was held by a member of the Ukrainian delegation, MP Heorhiy Lohvynsky.

"In 2018, I will serve as PACE vice-president. This should be the most difficult year in the assembly. We'll break through, because with such a Ukrainian delegation even impossible is possible," Ariev wrote on his Facebook page.

PACE vice-presidents are elected by quotas of national delegations in accordance with the PACE procedure. Ukraine nominated Ariev, whereas the quotas of vice-presidents from Italy and Russia remained vacant.

In Ukraine's history, it is the highest position held by Ukrainians in the international parliamentary stage.

As reported, the PACE's winter session started in Strasbourg on January 22 and will last until January 26.
