President Petro Poroshenko assures that the law on reintegration of Donbas defines Ukraine's right to self-defense in accordance with the UN Charter and does not contradict the Minsk agreements.

He stated this while speaking at a solemn meeting on the occasion of the Day of Unity of Ukraine and the 100th anniversary of the proclamation of the independence of the Ukrainian People's Republic, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"The law defines Ukraine's right to self-defense in accordance with Article 51 of the UN Charter and details the mechanism for its implementation. At the same time, the law reaffirms the priority of a peaceful, political and diplomatic settlement. Neither the letter nor the spirit of this law contradicts the Minsk agreements, as Moscow wants to present it," the head of state said.

Poroshenko stresses that unlike Russia that is looking for any excuse not to comply with the Minsk agreements, Ukraine strictly observes and will continue to observe its obligations.
