Ukraine hopes the Canadian sanctions imposed on Russian citizens for human rights violations will be expanded.

Ukrainian Ambassador to Canada Andriy Shevchenko said this in a commentary to an Ukrinform correspondent.

"According to the Magnitsky Act, which was adopted late last year, the personal sanctions have been already imposed on 30 Russian citizens for violation of human rights. We hope that in the future we will be able to fully apply this law against those Russians who persecute Ukrainians in Crimea, Donbas and the territory of the Russian Federation," the ambassador said.

According to him, having adopted this legislative act, Canada "showed the world a very worthy example of consistent pressure on Russia."
