President Poroshenko, U.S. State Secretary Tillerson discuss escalation in Donbas

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko had a phone conversation with U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, during which they discussed the situation in Donbas, the president’s press service reported on Friday evening. 

“The parties discussed the escalation in Donbas due to the increase in the number of attacks by pro-Russian militants and irresponsible withdrawal of Russian officers from the Joint Center for Control and Coordination of the Ceasefire Regime in Donbas,” reads the report.

Petro Poroshenko and Rex Tillerson coordinated positions regarding the UN peacekeeping mission in the occupied part of Donbas.

Petro Poroshenko thanked for the prolongation of sanctions against Russia, the consistent support of Washington regarding the increase of Ukraine’s defense capacity and the UN resolution on Crimea. Rex Tillerson emphasized that the U.S. would further support Ukraine.

In addition, the parties discussed the progress of the Ukrainian reforms. In particular, the Ukrainian president stressed that the issue of the Anticorruption Court creation had been unblocked.
