Ukraine should immediately fulfill visa liberalization requirement - EC

Ukrinform
The European Union demands that Ukraine immediately step up the fight against corruption, which is one of the main requirements for the functioning of a visa-free regime for Ukrainian citizens traveling to the Schengen area.

This is stated in the European Commission's annual report on the implementation of visa-free regime benchmarks for Western Balkans and Eastern Partnership countries, which was published on Wednesday, an Ukrinform correspondent in Brussels reports.

"In view of recent developments, Ukraine also needs to take immediate action to safeguard anti-corruption measures introduced with previous reforms and to allow further progress to be made," the EU's governing body said.

The European Commission will report again to the European Parliament and the Council on the continuous fulfilment of visa liberalization requirements in 2018.

As reported by Ukrinform, the EU, by granting the visa-free regime to third countries, including Ukraine, adopted the so-called preventive mechanism for possible cancellation of visa-free travel if partners do not fulfill visa-free criteria.
