Spokesman for Ukraine's Permanent Mission to the United Nations Oleh Nikolenko said this to an Ukrinform correspondent.
"Pavlo Klimkin discussed with UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres the prospects for the introduction of a UN peacekeeping mission in the east of Ukraine, protection of human rights in the temporarily occupied Crimea, humanitarian cooperation, including the release of Ukrainian political prisoners and hostages from Russian captivity," the Ukrainian diplomat said.
He also said that the head of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry handed over to the UN secretary-general an open letter on behalf of the association of relatives of political prisoners of the Kremlin, and the human rights and public organizations of Ukraine.
"Minister Klimkin asked to help liberate Ukrainians illegally detained in Russian prisons," Nikolenko said.
At the same time, the representative of Ukraine's Permanent Mission to the United Nations stressed that the release of Ukrinform journalist Roman Sushchenko was also on the agenda during the meeting. He recalled that the Ukrainian side repeatedly raised this issue at various levels in the UN.
