The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry is not holding any talks with Georgia on the possible extradition of former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili.

Ukraine's Deputy Foreign Minister Vasyl Bodnar told this to journalists on Friday, December 15, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"The Foreign Ministry is definitely not holding any negotiations on [Saakashvili's] extradition," Bodnar said.

He added that Georgia is within his competence, but there were no contacts between the ministries.

Earlier, the Ukrainian Prosecutor General's Office posted on its website a summons calling Saakashvili in for questioning on December 18 at 09.30.

On December 8, Saakashvili was detained by law enforcement officers and placed in a temporary detention center of the Ukrainian Security Service (SBU). He was detained as part of criminal proceedings opened under Part 1, Article 256 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (assisting members of criminal organizations and concealing their criminal activity).

On December 11, Pechersky District Court in Kyiv rejected the prosecutor's petition to put Saakashvili under house arrest and released him.
