Canada should strengthen its cooperation with Ukraine in the fight against corruption.

This is stated in a report prepared by the Canadian Parliament's Standing Committee on National Defense entitled "Canada's Support to Ukraine in Crisis and Armed Conflict," which was made available to Ukrinform.

"We recommend that the Government of Canada facilitate stronger parliament-to-parliament relations including possible assistance in the development of anti-corruption mechanisms, institutions, and training as requested by Ukrainian officials," the report said.

In order to combat corruption, the MPs also called for the development of civil society in Ukraine. "We recommend that the Government of Canada assist with the development of relations and open dialogue between the Ukrainian Government and civil society groups and assist with capacity building for civil society groups, especially in confronting corruption," noted in the report.

According to the Standing Committee on National Defense, Canada should also focus on promotion of gender equality in Ukraine. "We recommend that the Government of Canada expand Canada’s support for gender equality promotion through the Canadian Development Program in Ukraine, existing United Nations programs, and women, peace and security initiatives," the report reads.
