Ukrainian Radio correspondent detained in Belarus

Correspondent of the UA:Ukrainian Radio, Ukrainian citizen Pavlo Sharoiko has been detained in Belarus.

Board Chairman of the National Public Television and Radio Broadcasting Company Zurab Alasania has reported on the detention on Facebook.

"Correspondent of the UA: Ukrainian Radio, Ukrainian citizen Pavlo Sharoiko has been detained in Belarus. The embassy of Belarus evades our questions," he wrote.

Alasania added that, according to unofficial information, Sharoiko was charged with espionage, a standard charge for foreign correspondents.

Deputy editor-in-chief of the information broadcasting directorate and head of the editorial board of the foreign correspondent network Svitlana Mialik confirmed the fact of the journalist’s detention.

“UA:Ukrainian Radio correspondent in Belarus Pavlo Sharoiko was arrested. I learnt this information from his wife. She told me that Pavlo had been arrested in Minsk on October 25. Prior to that, the security officials conducted searches," she wrote on Facebook.
