Sanctions against Russia were imposed due to its aggression against Ukraine, and they can be changed after Russia changes its actions that led to the introduction of these restrictions.

Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Wess Mitchell said this to journalists after a meeting with President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"We believe that sanctions are an important tool for increasing the price for the aggression carried out against Ukraine. We believe that sanctions are a direct consequence of Russian aggression. The sanctions can be changed if Russia changes its actions that led to their introduction," Mitchell said.

He assures that sanctions against the Russian Federation regarding Donbas will remain in force until Russia fulfills the Minsk agreements.
