Russia avoids talks in "Normandy format" – Klimkin

Ukrinform
Russia avoids negotiations in the "Normandy format" to settle the situation in Donbas, but the Ukrainian side is actively holding talks on this issue with German, French and American partners.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin said this to journalists, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"Negotiations [in the "Normandy format"] make sense when everyone wants to talk. Now there is a situation when Russia is trying to perform some tricks," Klimkin said, speaking about the proposal of Russian President Vladimir Putin to deploy a peacekeeping mission in Donbss.

Klimkin recalled that Ukraine offered to deploy it in 2015, but Putin intentionally voiced it now to change the sequence of steps that should be implemented in Donbss.

He has added that Ukraine is now working in the "Normandy format" and with American friends to put pressure on Russia and get a mandate of the peacekeeping mission that would change the situation in Donbas and oust Russia from there.
