Parliamentary immunity has long turned into guarantee of impunity - Poroshenko
He wrote about on his Facebook page on Tuesday, October 17, after tabling in parliament a bill on the cancellation of parliamentary immunity.
"As I promised in my address [to parliament] in early September, I again submitted to the Verkhovna Rada as urgent a draft law on the abolition of parliamentary immunity. The immunity of people's deputies has long turned into a guarantee of impunity," the head of state said.
According to him, the cancellation of deputy immunity and the creation of an anti-corruption court, in accordance with the recommendations of the Venice Commission of the Council of Europe, are important elements of an effective fight against corruption.
"By the way, the financing of such a court is stipulated by the draft budget for 2018, which the Verkhovna Rada should consider at first reading this week," Poroshenko added.
On October 17, Poroshenko registered in the Verkhovna Rada bill No. 7203 on the introduction of amendments to Article 80 of the Constitution of Ukraine on the abolition of parliamentary immunity from January 1, 2020.
