President proposes parliament cancel parliamentary immunity from 2020

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has submitted to parliament a bill on the cancellation of parliamentary immunity from January 1, 2020, according to the official website of the Verkhovna Rada.

The relevant draft law was registered under No. 7203.

According to the explanatory note to the document, the bill proposes a new wording for Article 80 of the Constitution of Ukraine, which cancels the provisions under which Ukrainian MPs are guaranteed parliamentary immunity and cannot be prosecuted without the consent of the Verkhovna Rada.

It is expected that if adopted, the bill will come into force on January 1, 2020.
