EU waits for Venice Commission opinion on Ukrainian education law - Mogherini

The European Union will announce its position on the language article of the Ukrainian law on education after receiving an expert opinion the Venice Commission of the Council of Europe.

EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini stated this after a meeting of the EU Foreign Affairs Council in Luxembourg on Monday, October 16, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"I raised the issue with [Ukrainian] President [Petro] Poroshenko in New York during our bilateral meeting, and we agreed that we will wait for the opinion of the Venice Commission that has been requested on the implementation of the law, and we will follow up with the Ukrainian authorities on this as European Union," Mogherini said.

She noted that this issue was not a separate item on the agenda of the meeting, but was considered in the context of the discussion of EU policy in the field of human rights protection.
