President signs law on peaceful settlement of situation in certain areas of Donetsk, Luhansk regions

"President Petro Poroshenko signed the Law of Ukraine No. 2167-VIII ‘On Creation of Necessary Conditions for Peaceful Settlement of the Situation in Certain Areas of Donetsk and Luhansk Regions’, which was adopted by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on October 6," the statement reads.

The law stipulates that "in pursuance of restoring the territorial integrity, Ukraine remains committed to the peaceful settlement of the situation in certain areas of Donetsk and Luhansk regions on the basis of principles and norms of the international law and the Charter of the United Nations." It is also noted that Ukraine's sovereignty extends to its entire territory, which is holistic and inviolable within the internationally recognized borders.

As stated, the law also creates the necessary conditions for deployment of the UN peacekeeping operation in some areas of Donetsk and Luhansk regions.

As reported, 229 Ukrainian lawmakers adopted on October 6 a revised presidential bill, No. 7164, regarding the creation of the necessary conditions for a peaceful settlement of the situation in certain districts of Donetsk and Luhansk regions.
