President, prime minister congratulate Merkel on election victory

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko and Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman have congratulated German Chancellor Angela Merkel on the victory of her party in the elections to the Bundestag.
"Sincere congratulations to Angela Merkel - a winner of the parliamentary elections and an anchor of peace and stability in Europe!" the head of state wrote on Twitter on Sunday.
Groysman also wrote on Twitter: "I congratulate Angela Merkel and her political leadership on the victory in the parliamentary elections! Mutually beneficial cooperation between our countries will continue to develop!"
According to preliminary estimates, the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) and the Christian Social Union (CSU) received 33.5% of the vote, whereas the Social Democratic Party of Germany is second, with 21% of the vote. The main surprise was the third place of the right-wing populist party Alternative for Germany (13%).
