He stated this after a meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump in New York on Thursday, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
"The important point is that the United States has fully supported Ukraine's proposal, my proposals that were announced in 2015, regarding the deployment of peacekeepers with the mandate of the UN Security Council in the occupied territory in eastern Ukraine," Poroshenko said.
He said that the issue concerned the support of the Ukrainian position, "which foresees the mandate [of the peacekeeping mission] in the entire occupied territory in the east of Ukraine, including the uncontrolled section of the Ukrainian-Russian border, which will exclude the possibility of penetration of Russian troops, Russian armament, Russian ammunition."
Poroshenko said that this would really help establish peace in the region.
He also said that he had a very detailed discussion with Trump. The meeting was also attended by U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, U.S. National Security Advisor Herbert McMaster, U.S. Special Representative for Ukraine Negotiations Kurt Volker, and others.
