Justice Minister Petrenko: Privatization of state-owned enterprises one of priority reforms

The privatization of state-owned enterprises, which the government defined as one of priority reforms, will reduce possible corrupt activities.

Justice Minister of Ukraine Pavlo Petrenko stated this on TV Channel 112.

"We should carry out privatization. There are more than 3,500 state-owned enterprises in Ukraine, of which only about 400 are profitable. All the rest are unprofitable. It is unprofitable for the state, the national budget, but it is profitable for those who manage these enterprises," Petrenko said.

He noted that when corporate standards and financial reporting were introduced at state-owned enterprises, revenues of such companies immediately started to grow. At the same time, certain political forces and some representatives of local authorities benefit from the thesis that the privatization of state-owned enterprises is inappropriate and untimely.

The minster once again stressed that the government defined privatization of state-owned enterprises as one of the priority reforms.
