First Deputy Verkhovna Rada Chairperson Iryna Gerashchenko says she is initiating the process of bringing the Ukrainian legislation in the sphere of ecology in line with the European standards so that to strengthen responsibility of local administrations for the absence of garbage bins in public places and introduce mandatory sorting of garbage.

In a post on her Facebook page, she stressed that introducing a bill on increasing fines for throwing garbage in unintended places is only the first step of the plan "For a clean Ukraine!"

“The second is to strengthen the responsibility of local administrations for uninstalled garbage bins in public places. The third is mandatory sorting of garbage. We are working to improve the Ukrainian legislation in the sphere of ecology, bring it to the European regulations and standards," Gerashchenko said.

In addition, she noted that she had prepared inquiries to all regional state administrations to provide a full report on the use of environmental fees.
