Ukraine supports efforts of world community to resolve crisis in Venezuela – statement

This is stated in a statement made by the Foreign Ministry on the situation in Venezuela regarding elections to the National Constituent Assembly, the text of which is available to Ukrinform.

"Ukraine is concerned about the escalation of political tension and violence in Venezuela amid the deepening of economic and food crisis. We resolutely oppose the attempts by the Venezuelan government to usurp power, as well as to violate basic democratic rights and freedoms of its citizens, including the right to peaceful assembly and freedom of expression," the document reads.

According to the Foreign Ministry, it is not for the first time when Venezuela shows disrespect for democratic norms and principles of international law. In its time, Venezuela did not support Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity during the voting of the UN GA Resolutions, which were equally important for Ukraine and the whole civilized world.

"Ukraine strongly supports the appeals and efforts of the global community aimed at resolution of the crisis in Venezuela, including by means of holding free and democratic elections," the Foreign Ministry noted.
