President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko said this while delivering his speech on the Hetman Sahaidachny frigate off the coast of Odesa city, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
"The reforms Ukraine needs to conduct to join NATO 98% coincide with the reforms needed for EU membership," he said.
The Head of State has stressed that now the Ukrainian people are united around the idea of European and transatlantic integration.
The President has also noted that Ukraine will be able to join NATO only after it meets the necessary criteria for membership in the Alliance and conducts reforms in all the needed areas.
According to Poroshenko, Ukraine intends to return to the agenda the issue of the action plan on Ukraine's membership in NATO.
