The forcible deportation ordered by the Soviet authorities of the Crimean Tatars from the peninsula in 1944 is a crime without a statute of limitations.

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko said this on the Day of Remembrance of the Victims of the Crimean Tatar People's Genocide, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"The forcible deportation has become one of the most criminal and shameful operations of the totalitarian communist regime of the Soviet Union. And the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine justifiably recognized the deportation of the Crimean Tatar people in 1944 as genocide and declared May 18 as the Day of Remembrance of the Victims of the Crimean Tatar People's Genocide. Deportation is a crime without a statute of limitations. And the criminals, who cold-bloodedly planned the genocide, do not have the right to be forgiven," he said.
