President instructs Foreign Ministry to file lawsuit against Russia to UN International Court

President Petro Poroshenko has instructed the Foreign Ministry to submit a dispute to the UN International Court of Justice in The Hague regarding Russia’s violation of the UN Convention for the Suppression of the Financing of Terrorism and the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination.

The President said this at the meeting with Commissioner of the President of Ukraine for the Affairs of Crimean Tatars Mustafa Dzhemilev, Deputy Foreign Minister Olena Zerkal, Deputy Heads of the Presidential Administration Kostiantyn Yelisieiev and Oleksiy Filatov, Government’s portal reported.

“The Russian Federation has been brutally violating international law for three years. For three years, Russia has been committing the illegal annexation of Crimea, illegal occupation of the east of our country in the territory of Donetsk and Luhansk regions, implementing the policy of elimination and discrimination in Crimea,” the President said.

He emphasized that over the past three years, Russian militants had committed numerous terrorist attacks affecting hundreds of thousands of innocent people forced to leave their home.

The Head of State expressed confidence that Ukraine had been acting exclusively in the framework of international law since the beginning of the Russian aggression.
