German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Francois Hollande have called for the extension of sanctions against Russia because of the lack of progress in the implementation of the Minsk agreements.

The leaders said this after talks in Berlin on Tuesday, an Ukrinform correspondent reported from Germany.

"Sanctions against Russia must be extended," Merkel said.

She stressed that the parties "would like to see more progress in the implementation of the Minsk agreements."

French President Hollande supported the head of the German government, stressing "all the same obstacles" in the process.
