State financing of parties to help strengthen democracy – US Ambassador Yovanovitch

The introduction of state financing of political parties could be a basis for the consolidation of democracy in Ukraine and a real step towards fight against corruption.
US Ambassador to Ukraine Marie Louise Yovanovitch said this during her speech at the forum "Our money in politics: version 2.0," an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
"Ukraine today has one of the most progressive legislation in Europe regarding the financing of political activities. It includes transparency and accessibility to financing, limit for private contributions and gender perspective. This reform can be a main step in the consolidation of democracy in Ukraine," the ambassador said.
"The US government is pleased to continue to support the Ukrainian people in the implementation of this legislation," Yovanovitch promised.
