Ukrinform
Since the Russian aggression has started in the east of Ukraine and in Crimea the situation of human rights and democracy has worsened. At the same time, a substantial progress in this area has been observed in other regions of Ukraine.

This has been stated in the EU Annual Report on Human Rights and Democracy in the World released on Tuesday, an Ukrinform correspondent reports from Brussels.

"The conflict in eastern Ukraine and the illegal annexation of Crimea and Sevastopol by the Russian Federation led to a significant deterioration of the human rights situation in the territories, which are not controlled by the government," reads a report.

Particularly, the deterioration is observed in socio-economic living conditions, restrictions of fundamental freedoms, freedom of expression, and religious beliefs.
