President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko has said that the external threat from Russia has stepped up formation of the Ukrainian political nation on the principles of patriotism.
The President said this while delivering a solemn speech at the Independence Square in front of the military parade, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
"The external threat has stepped up formation of the modern Ukrainian political nation on the principles of civil patriotism. Ukrainian-speaking and Russian-speaking, the citizens who speak other languages... Ukrainians, ethnic Russians, Crimean Tatars and other ethnic groups… All of them are Ukrainian patriots, who stand shoulder to shoulder to defend our country with weapons in their hands," Poroshenko said.
