Ukraine and Azerbaijan have agreed to increase cooperation in a multilateral format taking into account Ukraine’s membership of the United Nations Security Council.

Ukraine’s President Petro Poroshenko said this during a joint press conference with Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev in Baku, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"I am pleased to note the unanimity of views of Baku and Kyiv on topical issues of the global and regional agenda. We agreed to negotiate and coordinate our approaches and enhance the cooperation in a multilateral format taking into account Ukraine's membership of the United Nations Security Council,” President Poroshenko said.

Thus, he recalled that Azerbaijan during its membership of the UN Security Council actively supported Ukraine.

The Ukrainian president also said that during the meeting with President Aliyev they discussed future projects that could be used during Azerbaijan's chairmanship of the GUAM Organization for Democracy and Economic Development.

"We agreed that our cooperation in this promising direction should be intensified,” President Poroshenko said.
