Ukraine Justice Ministry sends request to Russia for Mykola Karpyuk’s return

The Ukrainian Justice Ministry has sent a request to to Russia to transfer Ukrainian national Mykola Karpyuk, who remains illegally imprisoned in Russia to Ukraine, Deputy Justice Minister Serhiy Petukhov has said on Facebook.

"We are sending to Russia a request for transfer of Mykola Karpyuk [back to Ukraine]. We have  received an application filed by his brother, Valentyn Karpyuk," wrote Petukhov.

Earlier, it was reported that on May 26 the Chechen Supreme Court sentenced Ukrainian citizens Mykola Karpyuk and Stanislav Klyukh for 22 years in jail after they had been found guilty of fighting alongside Chechen separatists against Russian troops in the 1990s.
