President signs law enabling appointment of Yuriy Lutsenko as Prosecutor-General

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has signed a law adopted today which allows the appointment of a person not in posssesion of a law degree as the Prosecutor-General of Ukraine.

The law was adopted by 258 MPs at today's morning sitting, the presidential press office reports.

The law on amendments to certain legislative acts of Ukraine regarding the activities of the Prosecutor General’s Office of Ukraine changes the qualification requirements for a candidate for the post of Prosecutor-General.

Now, a person, who has a university degree and work experience of at least 5 years in the field of law or experience in a legislative and/or law-enforcement body, may take up this post. Previously, legislation provided a requirement for having a law degree.
