Balcerowicz becomes representative of Ukrainian President to Government

Leszek Balcerowicz, one of the most successful architects of Polish reforms, has been appointed as the representative of Ukrainian President to the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine.

The corresponding decree was signed by President Petro Poroshenko on Friday.

"President Petro Poroshenko and Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman met with Leszek Balcerowicz and Ivan Miklos," reads the statement of the President’s press service.

As noted, the formation of a single group of strategic advisors on reform support in Ukraine was approved by the European Union. On Thursday, Petro Poroshenko discussed the matter with EU Commissioner for the European Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Johannes Hahn.

"We will not have the team and the group of the Prime Minister and the President. We will have a single, common team which will reform the country," Poroshenko said.

Balcerowicz served as the Vice Prime Minister and Finance Minister of Poland in 1989-91, 1997-2000 and the governor of the National Bank of Poland in 2000-2007. He has been also appointed as the adviser to the President of Ukraine and the co-chair of the group of strategic advisors on reform support in Ukraine.

Another co-chair of the group will be former Vice Prime Minister and former Finance Minister of the Slovak Republic Ivan Miklos, who will also lead the group of advisers to Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman.
