Council of Europe calls on Russia to let doctors visit Savchenko

The Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe has expressed concern over the state of  health of Ukrainian pilot Nadiya Savchenko, which has significantly worsened as a result of long hunger strike, and has called on Russia to give the access to jailed Savchenko for Ukrainian doctors. 

This is said in a report released by the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry.

The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry says it welcomes a statement by the Committee of Ministers of the Council of European regarding the illegal trial on Nadiya Savchenko, which was published on March 30: “We consider it as an important sign of solidarity of this international organization and its member states with the Ukrainian people and a strong signal in support of the Ukrainian political prisoners on the whole,” the ministry noted.

“The Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe has expressed concern over the state of health of Nadiya Savchenko, which has worsened as a result of a long hunger strike, and has called on the Russian government to give the access for a team of doctors, whom Nadiya trust, as well as for her relatives and friends,” the ministry stated.
