The U.S. Department of State has demonstrated a firm position regarding the immediate and unconditional release of Ukrainian pilot and MP Nadiya Savchenko from the Russian captivity.

Spokesperson for the Department John Kirby made a relevant statement on Thursday, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"The same position we have taken: She needs to be released. We’ve said that all along. She’s been detained for no good reason, and we want her released immediately regardless," Kirby said.

He also confirmed that the Department of State was aware of the intention of the Ukrainian pilot to launch a hunger strike. In fact, the U.S. official said, it would be an added issue to increase the urgency on that.
