Poroshenko, Norwegian prime minister: Sanctions against Russia should be kept

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has held a meeting with Prime Minister of Norway Erna Solberg, the president’s press service reports.

The sides discussed the importance of keeping sanctions against Russia as an efficient tool for motivating Russia to fulfill the Minsk agreements.

“The head of state informed the prime minister on the situation in Donbas, in particular, attempts by Russian-backed militants to worsen situation in the region, as well as the violation of human rights in Russian-occupied Crimea. The sides also noted the importance of maintaining sanctions against Russia as an efficient mechanism for motivating Russia to fulfill the Minsk agreements,” reads a report.

The president also informed the prime minister on the course of large-scale reforms in Ukraine.

The prime minister of Norway, in turn, praised the efforts by the Ukrainian authorities and assured that the Norwegian side would continue supporting Ukraine on its way to transformation.

In addition, President Poroshenko accepted the invitation of Prime Minister Solberg to make a visit to Norway in 2016
