Poland preparing response to Zhirinovsky's proposal to divide Ukraine
KYIV, March 24 /Ukrinform/. The Polish Foreign Ministry has confirmed the receipt of a letter from Russian State Duma deputy Vladimir Zhirinovsky with a proposal that Russia, Poland, Romania and Hungary divide part of Ukraine.
This was stated by Polish Foreign Ministry spokesman Marcin Wojciechowski, the Polish Radio News Agency reported.
"I confirm that the Polish Embassy in Russia has received a letter from Russian State Duma deputy Vladimir Zhirinovsky. Its content is the repetition of previous speeches in the Duma and the Russian media. It's very strange. We will give a response to be polite, but it will not concern the content of the letter," Wojciechowski.
Polish television channel TVP1 reported on Sunday that Zhirinovsky had asked the Polish Foreign Ministry to demand a referendum on the accession of five border regions - Volyn, Lviv, Ternopil, Ivano-Frankivsk and Rivne regions - to Poland. Similar proposals from the leader of the Liberal Democratic Party of Russia were also made to Romania regarding Chernivtsi region and Hungary regarding Zakarpattia region.
