The European Union will monitor the consequences of the decision of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine on the prohibition of goods movement across the contact line for the civilian population in eastern Ukraine.

Spokesperson of the European Commission Maja Kocijančič said this in an exclusive commentary to an Ukrinform correspondent in Brussels.

"We will carefully monitor the impact of the decision on the civilian population," she said.

As noted, the European Union advocates much needed inclusive approach to the Ukrainian citizens, who live in the currently uncontrolled territories of eastern Ukraine, within the framework of the steady support for the country.

"Recent events, unfortunately, contradict this approach and create the risk for further negative impact on the humanitarian situation," the EU representative noted.
